Medicaid / CURES / Reduced Reimbursement

GAMES Members! Is this getting confusing to you?

Please, please don't just throw up your hands and walk away!  Call your Board president Tyler Riddle at 229-402-0206 or your Board president-elect, Charlie Barnes IV at 229-563-8062 or your Executive Director, Teresa Tatum at 770-516-3329! We will try to walk you through this. It is so important that our combined voices be heard - and fast!!

As announced last month,
citing a more than $10 million shortfall in federal dollars, Georgia Medicaid made plans to adopt Medicare Bid rates for DME effective January 1, 2018.

The GAMES Board recommended that the state should not implement the proposed amendment. We believe implementing this amendment would cause tremendous access to care issues for the state’s Medicaid population.

One month deferral!
On Tuesday of last week, GAMES was notified by DCH that the Department has decided to perform further due diligence, taking into account the documentation submitted by GAMES, letters received from providers, and additional correspondence from CMS that fine-tuned the effected code set. Medicaid has reengaged CPA firm, Myers and Stauffer, to perform further analysis, taking a closer look at the 10+ million figure originally presented as the budget shortfall.

The DCH Board will hold a final vote on this amendment at it’s February 8, 2018 meeting.

Should the additional analysis reveal a shortfall to the Medicaid budget, any adjustments to reimbursements will be retroactive to January 1, 2018.

The GAMES Board of Directors and concerned members will continue to engage with the DCH Board and with Medicaid staff. However, it is likely we will need a legislative fix at the state budget level.

Everyone needs to chip in!
GAMES has engaged a lobbyist to focus specifically on this one project - keeping Medicaid rates at the 2017 level. GAMES has set up a legislative fund for this project. All members are urged to make a contribution and all contributions are helpful! CLICK HERE to make a contribution to this specific legislative fund.

Raise your voice!
If you are concerned with your ability to care for Medicaid patients based on this plan to apply Medicare Bid rates to Medicaid, then raise the volume with your state senators and representatives now! CLICK HERE for a sample message by GAMES president-elect, Charlie Barnes IV.

If you would like to be a part of this discussion, have anything to offer to your GAMES Board, contacts at the State level, then please CLICK HERE and let us know!

DME, Interoperability, and the New Care Continuum

Presented by Nick Knowlton, VP Business Development, Brightree

In this talk, providers will learn about the impact interoperability is having in the HME marketplace today and how interoperability will continue to influence how the HME provider will add value to the new care continuum. We will address simple definitions for HME interoperability, how to get connected today, and how the government’s increasing involvement in interoperability will help ensure the HME provider is able to connect and get paid for their services.

Nick Knowlton is the Vice President of Business Development for Brightree, where he leads the company’s initiatives and strategy for healthcare interoperability. Nick also chairs the membership committee and serves on the leadership team for CommonWell Health Alliance.

Learn more about what interoperability means to you, along with updates from Medicaid, VGM, and GAMES, along with open discussions on Collaborating with other partners in the healthcare space in Georgia! Attend the GAMES Winter Meeting January 30th in Decatur, GA!

Help Build Support for H.R. 4229 by Reaching Out to Legislators Who Have Previously Endorsed Rural Relief
